Sir Richard was born about 1334 in Bracewell, Yorkshire, England. Sir Richard's father was John Tempest and his mother was Katherine Sherburne. His paternal grandparents were John Tempest and Margaret de Holand; his maternal grandparents were Robert Sherburne and Alicia De Blackburn. He had a brother and a sister, named John and Joan. He was the oldest of the three children. He died in 1386.-
