Hamo was born about 1084 in Lancaster, England. Hamo's father was Walter Herverus and his mother was Maud De Valois. His paternal grandfather was Herverus; his maternal grandfather was Theobald De Valois. He was an only child.General Notes
At his marriage to Maud, her father gave him the manor of Hocton, which became the family name. Later the name was changed to HOGHTON, And still later in America, it was changed to HOUGHTON. Eccleston, in the eastern part of Lancashire was also in the daughter's dowry.
They had a son named William.
