Gronwy ap Ednyfed was born about 1225 in Betws-yn-Rhos, Is Dulas, Denbighshire, Wales. Gronwy ap Ednyfed's father was Ednyfed Fychan ap Kendrig and his mother was Gwenllian. His paternal grandparents were Kendrig ap Iorwerth and Angharad. He had a brother and two sisters, named Gryffydd ap Ednyfed, Gwladws Brynffenigl verch and Gwenhwyfar verch. He had six half-brothers named Howel ap Ednyfed, Iorwerth ap Ednyfed, Kendrig ap Ednyfed, Llewelyn ap Ednyfed, Rhys ap Ednyfed and Tudor ap Ednyfed. He died in 1268.-
