Matilda's father was Arnulf II "The Young", Count of Flanders and her mother was Susanna, Princess of Italy.  Her maternal grandparents were Berenger II, King of Italy and Willa, Princess of Tuscany. She had two brothers named Baudouin IV, "Le Barbu", Count of Flandre and Eudes, Count of Cambrai. She had a half-sister named Adele, Princess of France.  She died about 0995.1
