Benedict was born in 1254 in Tonebridge,Suffolk,England. Benedict's father was Richard , Earl of Gloucester & Hertford de Clare and his mother was Maude , Countess of Lincoln de Lacy. His maternal grandparents were John , Earl of Lincoln de Lacy and Margaret de Quincy. He had three brothers and four sisters, named Gilbert , the Red, Earl of Gloucester, Bogo, Thomas , Lord Thomond, Isabel, Margaret , of Gloucester, Rohese\Agnes and Eglentiria. He died at the age of 41 in 1295.-
