John was born about 1680 in Anne Arundel County,Maryland. John's father was John Sellman and his mother was Elizabeth Brashears. His paternal grandparents were William Selman and Margaret Holford; his maternal grandparents were Benjamin Brashears and Mary Jones. He had three brothers and five sisters, named William, Lawrence, Robert, Elizabeth, Margaret, Mary, Ruth and Ann. He died in July 1716 in Anne Arundel County,Maryland.-
