James was born in 1752 in Rowan Co.,NC. James' father was John Knox and his mother was Jean Gracey. His paternal grandparents were Ad Knox and Margaret Brock; his maternal grandparents were John O'Gracey and Jean Sinclair. He had six brothers and a sister, named William, Absalom, John , Jr., Joseph, Benjamin, Samuel , Sr. and Mary. He died at the age of 42 on October 10th, 1794 in Huntersville,Mecklenburg Co.,NC.General Notes
