William was born in 1574 in Rotherham,Yorkshire,England.  William's father was Thomas BROWNELL and his mother was Margaret GILBERTHORPE. He had six brothers named William, Robert, Robert, Edmund Rowland, Rowland and Robert.  He was the second oldest of the seven children.
