Stephen Johnston (formerly Stephen Cherie), chief of Clan Caskieben, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, and sec. to the Earl of Marr (1329) m Margaret (dau. of Sir Andrew Garrioch, Kt. of Caskieben) from whom he inherited large estates, and took the name of Johnston, that of the estate to which he succeeded, which was erected into a barony in the beginning of the 16th century (See Burke's Peerage 1896 pg 794). His son and heir - John Johnston of Caskeiben.
