His paternal grandparents were Thomas CLAYTON and Anne JACKSON; his maternal grandparents were Nicholas RIGBYE and Mrs-Nicholas RIGBYE. He had four brothers and five sisters, named William, John, Raphe, Richard, Anne, Ann, Joan Mrs, Mary and Alice. He was the second oldest of the ten children.
