Richard Booth was one of the founders 1639 of Stratfor, Conneticut. In March of 1687 or 1688, gave his age in an affidavit as about 81. From the terms of the will of his son Ephraim, it is likely that his wife Elizabeth was sister to Mr. Joseph Hawley.
Early family members and some genealogists believed that Richard Booth is a direct discendant of Sir George Booth and Katharine Montfort. Some authorities doubt there is enough conclusive evidence to support that belief. However, "Burke's Presidential Families of the United States," support the theory that Richard Booth is in fact a descendant of Sir George Booth. The genealogy presented in Burke's is analogous to the one shown in "Harleian Society Publication #18 Visitations of the County of Cheshire 1580." Both publications agree that Richard Booth descends from the Booth family of Cheshire, England. The evidence, however, is not convincing enough to include in the Booth pedigree at this time.
