Bowater was born about 1730 in Chester,Pennsylvania. Bowater's father was John II Beals and his mother was Sarah C. Bowater. His paternal grandparents were John Beals and Mary Clayton; his maternal grandparents were Thomas Bowater and Sarah Edge. He had two brothers and four sisters, named John III, William, Sarah, Ann Mary, Prudence and Rachel. He died on February 19th, 1781 in Orange,Surry County,North Carolina.-
