Amelia was born about 1842 in Horley,Oxfordshire,England. Amelia's father was James BARRETT and her mother was Caroline RANDALL. Her paternal grandparents were Nathan BARRETT and Elizabeth BUTCHER; her maternal grandparents were William RANDALL and Hannah WHAREHAM. She had four brothers and six sisters, named William, Henry James, Joseph, Charles, Isabella, Maria, Matilda Elizabeth Jane, Elisa, Annie and Fanny. She was the oldest of the eleven children.
