Gilbert was born about 1085 in Ewyas Lacy, Herefordshire, England. Gilbert's mother was Emma De Lacy. His maternal grandparents were Walter De Lacy and UNKNOWN Ermeline. He was an only child. He died after 1163.General Notes

Gilbert, upon succeeding his uncle, assumed the surname of Laci. This feudal lord, in the conflict between Stephen and the Empress, espoused the cause of the latter. He eventually became a knight Templar.
He had a biological son named Hugh.
