Mathieu was born in 1618.1 Mathieu's father was Louis D'amours and his mother was Elizabeth Tessier. His paternal grandparents were Pierre D'amours and Jeanne Le Prevost; his maternal grandparents were Jean Valerie Tessier and Livia Branville. He had a sister named Marie Elisabeth.
