Gabriel Laforest Dit's father was Gabriel Benoit and his mother was Marie Anne Gendron.  His paternal grandparents were Claude Benoit and Anne Fontaine; his maternal grandparents were Thomas Geudon and Isabelle Demarin. He had a brother and three sisters, named Pierre La Forest, Marguerite, Marie Francoise and Marie Anne.
