Matilda was born in 1040 in Montaigne, Sud-Mnch, France. Matilda's father was Earl Roger II de Montgomery and her mother was Mabel Talvas. Her paternal grandparents were Earl Hugh I deMontgomery and Josceline of Pont-Audemer; her maternal grandparents were William Talvas II Lord of Bellême & Alençon and Hildeburg deAlençon. She had two brothers and a sister, named Robert II deBelleme, Arnulph deMontgomerie Earl of and Sibyl. She was the oldest of the four children. She died at the age of 45 in 1085.-
