Gilbert was born about 1048 in Alost,Flanders,Belgium. Gilbert's father was Lord Ralph deGand and his mother was Gisele of Luxembourg. His paternal grandparents were Adalbert deGand and Ermengarde De Flanders; his maternal grandparents were Frederick I Duke of Luxemburg and Ermentrude Von Gleiberg. He had a half-brother named Gilbert. He died in 1094.General Notes
