Maud was born in 1175 in of Lincoln, Lincolnshire, England. Maud's father was Richard de Clare VI Earl of Hertford and her mother was Amice FitzRobert Countess. Her paternal grandparents were Roger de Clare Earl of Gloucester and Countess Maud de St. Hilary de Harcourt; her maternal grandparents were William FitzRobert Earl of Gloucester and Hawise de Beaumont. She had two brothers and two sisters, named Gilbert, Richard, Aveline and Joan. She was the second oldest of the five children. She died at the age of 38 in 1213.-
