His paternal grandparents were Wiiliam I Longsword Of Normandy and Sporte Liutgarda deBretagne; his maternal grandparents were Herbastu deCrepon and Cyrid Herbastus deCrepon. He had two brothers and a sister, named Richard II The Good Duke, Robert Count and Hedwige Hawise. He was the second oldest of the four children. He had a half-brother named William 2nd Count.
