Richard of Hertford was born in 1162 in Tunbridge, Kent, England.. Richard of Hertford's father was Earl Roger of Hertford Clare and his mother was Maud de St Hilary. His paternal grandparents were Earl Richard fitzGilbert of Hertford and Adeliza Alice Meschines; his maternal grandparents were James St. Hilary Du Harcourt and Aveline de St. Hillary. He had two sisters named Mabel and Aveline. He was the oldest of the three children. He had four half-brothers and four half-sisters, named Richard, Richard, William, William, Elana, Elana, Mabel and Aveline. He died at the age of 56 on December 28th, 1218.
