Unknown was born in 1862. Unknown's father was Matthew Thompson and his/her mother was Rebecca Robert Shields. His/her maternal grandparents were James Shields and Sarah Elizabeth Black. He/she had six brothers and four sisters, and also a sibling of unknown gender, named Henry Clay, James W., Joseph, Johnnie, Thomas, Harvey, Elizabeth, Julia Jane, Isabella, Mattie Millen and Unknown. He/she was the second youngest of the twelve children.
