King Aethelred II (the Unready) De Wessex 
Aethelred II, known as the Unready, was born in 0968 in Wessex,England.1 The Unready's father was King Edgar I ("the Peaceful") De Wessex and his mother was Elfrida De Mercia. His paternal grandfather was Edmund I (The Elder) De Wessex. He had a brother named the Martyr. He was the younger of the two children. He died at the age of 48 on April 23rd, 1016 in London,Middlesex,England. He was buried in 1016 in London,Middlesex,England.2 3 General Notes
Reigned 979-1013(deposed) and 1014-1016. In the face of Danish raids, he was forced to pay huge tributes (Danegeld) to the enemy. He was driven into exile by Sweyn but returned after his death. Died during Canutes invasion of England.
Burke says he died 1010. His tomb was lost when the old St Pauls was destroyed in the great fire of London.

1 NOTE He was an Anglo-Saxon king of England. His reign was marked bybitter military struggles. After negotiating a treaty withRichard II, duke of Normandy, Æthelred married Richard's sister.This marriage provided the basis for the subsequent Norman claimto the English throne. Although Æthelred paid tribute to theplundering Danes, Sweyn I (the Forkbeard), king of Denmark,invaded England in 1013 and proclaimed himself king. In 1014Æthelred fled to Normandy but returned a few months later uponSweyn's death. Sweyn's son and successor, Canute II, invaded thecountry a year later and, following Æthelred's death, becameking of England. Æthelred's sobriquet, The Unready is acorruption of the Old English unraed, bad counsel, which is areference to his misfortunes.
