Miss was born about 1137. Miss' father was Uctred Lord of Galloway and her mother was Gunhild de Dunbar. Her paternal grandparents were Fergus McDonald Lord of Galloway and Elizabeth de Normandy; her maternal grandfather was Waltheof Earl of Dunbar. She had three brothers and a sister, named Fergus, Lochlan, Roland and Eva Uchtred. She was the oldest of the five children.
