Her paternal grandparents were Henry I Virneburg and Ponzette Oberstein; her maternal grandfather was Johann Cuijck. She had five brothers and five sisters, named Rupert III, Heinrich, Gerhard, Johann, Werner, Kunegunde, Matilda, Elisabeth, Margaret and Beatrix. She was the fifth youngest of the eleven children.
