Gijsbert was born about 1182 in Bronckhorst,Gelderland,Netherlands.  Gijsbert's father was Willem Van Bronckhorst and his mother was Geertruijd of Gelderland.  His paternal grandparents were Gijsbert Van Bronckhorst and Vrouwe Van Rousch.  He was an only child.  He died in 1238.
