Margarethe of was born about 1204 in Schwerin,Mecklenburg. Margarethe of's father was Heinrich Burwin III Prince of Mecklenburg and her mother was Kristina Knutsdotter Princess of Sweden. Her paternal grandparents were Heirich Burwin I Mecklenburg and Mathilde Of Saxony; her maternal grandparents were Knut Eriksson SWEDEN and Cecilia Johansdatter. She had four brothers and a sister, named Nikolaus I, Heinrich Burwin III, Johann I of, Pribislaw I and Mechtilde. She was the youngest of the six children.
