Simon I , Duke of Lorraine 
Simon I , Duke of was born about 1072 in Lorraine,France. Simon I , Duke of's father was Thierry II (Dietrich) Duc D' Alsace et Lorraine and his mother was Hedwig Countess of Formbach. His paternal grandparents were Gerhard III (IV) Duke of Lorraine and Hedwig of Namur; his maternal grandparents were Frederick Von Formbach and Gertrud Von Haldensleben. He had three sisters named Gisela Of, Gertrude of and Petronilla. He had three half-brothers and a half-sister, named Dietrich II (Thierry II) de, Thierry, Lothar III Count of , Duke of Saxony and Pétronille (or Gertrude) de. M Parisse in "Noblesse et chevalerie en Lorraine medievale" (Nancy, 1982)
p.400 (which is followed in this by ES VI:129) gives Simon's mother as Hedwig
von Formbach. While Parisse indicates Simon's mother he does not explicitly
indicate the mother of Simon's siblings (though some of them we know were
offsping of Gertrude).
An alternative opinion on the identity of his mother is given in "Hist
Couronne" pub 1729 vol. 2 p 719, which gives GERTRUDE, THIERRY's 2nd
wife.
