Her paternal grandparents were William De Braiose and Bertha de Pîtres of Gloucester; her maternal grandfather was Reginald de St. Valery. She had twelve brothers and six sisters, named Robert, Roger, Reginald , Baron Abergavenny, Thomas, William, Walter, Hugh, Henry, Bernard, Fulk, Phlilp, John, Flandrina, Matilde, Joan, Giles, Margaret and Eleanor.
