General Notes
George inlisted in the service in January 1942 and served in Africa,
Secily, Italy, England, and went in on D day at Omaha Beach. In February
1945, he was severely wounded and sent home.
He met Lola and they were married in October 1945. They had a great
marraige and enjoyed many things together. He became a real Dad to
Roberta and he is Dad to her yet. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He
bowled, skated (both roller and ice) with the kids. They took lots of
trips, especially in Indiana and neighboring states on little money but
had great times.
George drove semi trucks when he and Lola first got married but didn't
like to be away from home so he learned to be an auto body repairman and
became quite well known for his work.
He was injured in an auto accident in 1955 and as a result had to have 2
serious back surgeries and his spine was fused in the surgery in 1964.
Soon after he contracted cancer and had lung removal in 1967 but he began
to go down and had more surgery in 1969 and died 6/18/1969.
