Pippin's father was Charles II the Bald and his mother was Richildis Richilde VON METZ. His paternal grandparents were Louis I the Pious and Judith DE BAVARE; his maternal grandfather was Bivin Budwine VON METZ. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Charles, Drogo, Rothaut and Rotilde. He had four half-brothers and three half-sisters, named Carloman, Louis II the Stammerer le Begue, Charles, Lothar, Judith de France, Rotrude and Ermentrude or Hersent.
