Jacob was born in 1841 in Ohio.  Jacob's father was Jacob Harrington and his mother was Minerva E.  His paternal grandparents were Harrington and Elizabeth. He had four brothers named Lemuel, William, Henry and George.  He was the oldest of the five children.
