William was born in , Westmoreland, Virginia.1 William's father was John Muse and his mother was Ann Sanford Hopkins. His paternal grandparents were John Muse (Mewes) and Catherine (Lewis) Moss. He had four brothers and five sisters, named Edward, Hopkins, George, John, Mary, Elizabeth, Augustine, Ann and Sarah. He died in , Prince William, Virginia.1 -
