Margaret's father was John G. Keys and her mother was Mary Lucretia Allen. Her paternal grandparents were George Washington Keys and Elizabeth Lambert Waller; her maternal grandparents were William H. Allen and Matilda Patterson. She had three brothers and four sisters, named George, Louis, Rosco, Cora, Elizabeth, Lillie and Tracy.-
