Ambrose's father was Daniel Seelye and his mother was Phoebe Fulkerson. His paternal grandfather was David Seely; his maternal grandparents were Cornelius Fulkerson and Frinche Van Dyke. He had six brothers and five sisters, named Lyman, Cornelius, Daniel J., Reuben, Charles, Dempster, Lovinia, Sally, Phoebe, Sibble and Betsy.-
