He was a physician in St. Louis.

Newspaper article:  "Dr I. W. Powell Dies of Injuries:  Dr.
Ignatius W. Powell, 4458 Washingt on boulevard, member of
the City Boxing Commission.

Dr. Powell was 40 years old and a noted sportsman.  He died
of pneumonia induced by the fract ure of several ribs in an
automobile accident six weeks ago.   His death occured at
the Misso ui Baptist Sanitarium at 9:15 last night, after a
corps of 12 of his fellow physicians and sp ecialists had
battled for several days to save his life.

Dr. Powell was a native of Bloomfield, Mo., where he will
be buried at a time yet to be desig nated.  He was educated
in the public schools there and later went to high school
in Jefferso n City.  Later he attended Missouri University.
His meducal education was received at Washin gton
University where he lectured following his graduation.

He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. James Powell.  His father was
a teacher, who died several year s ago.  His mother is
still living.  Dr. Powell had his office at 1400 North
Grand avenue an d resided with his brother, Dr. Carl A.
Powell, 4458 Washington boulevard.  He began the prac tice
of medicine in 1910."
