His paternal grandparents were John Morton and Mary Mountjoy; his maternal grandparents were Marmaduke Beckwith and Elizabeth Brockenbrough. He had a brother and four sisters, named William Jordin, Margaret Sydenham, Mary Molly Beckwith, Elizabeth McCarty and Lucy Butler.-
