Mary was born about 1712 in ,of Cumberland, VA.¹ Mary's father was Thomas Hodges and her mother was Christian (Hodges). She had five brothers and a sister, named William, John, Drury, Thomas, Edmund and Delany. She was the second youngest of the seven children.
