In looking for the following wills, my understanding is
that the wills are at the Wadesboro courthouse and in
Raleigh at the NC Archives at: Dept of Cultural Resources
Division of Archives and History Archives and Records
Section 109 E. Jones St. Raleigh,NC 27601-2807 The NC
Archives has told me that if you need to search for wills
through the mail they will search Mitchell's "North
Carolina Wills: A Testator Index, l665-l900", the original
wills with in the county records, AND, if they do not
locate the will, they search the original estates records
for an estate settlement, for $8.00 search and handling fee
for out of state researchers (still applicable even if you
know the will number and page) . Make sure you send a
Self-addressed stamped envelope. If they find a will or an
estate record, they send a copy to the inquiring party as
long as there are no more that ten (l0) pages to copy. If
there are more than ten (l0) pages, they send an order form
with the price listed. Most wills do not exceed ten pages;
most estates records do.
For the wills without a probate date the date of the will
is listed with the circa (c). Then Will book Number (or
letter): Page number. GADDY, Thomas Sr. 1815 2:38 GADDY,
