Arnold de was born in 1036 in Of Grentemesnil, Calvados, Normandy, France.1 Arnold de's father was Robert de GRENTEMESNIL and his mother was Hawise de ECHAFOUR. His paternal grandfather was Gervase de Grentmesnil; his maternal grandparents were Giroie de Escalfoy and Gisele de Montfort. He had two brothers and a sister, named Hugh de, Robert de and Adaliza de. He was the youngest of the four children.
