Giles de was born in 1175 in Of, Bramber, Sussex, England.1 Giles de's father was William de BRAOSE and his mother was Maud (Matilda) de SAINT VALERY. His paternal grandparents were William de BRAOSE and Bertha de GLOUCESTER; his maternal grandparents were Bernald IV de SAINT VALERY and Matilda Mrs de SAINT VALERY. He had eleven brothers and six sisters, named Roger de, Thomas de, William de, Walter de, Reginald de, Hugh de, Henry de, Bernard de, Fulk de, Philip de, John de, Flandrina de, Matilda de, Joan (Alice) de, Laurette de, Margaret de and Eleanor de.
