MEDI BookNote the interesting spelling here, it is one line of Bowies that spelling the nam e Bowe, Bowye, Bowie Bowyie, Buy, Boye etc. a lesson for name spelling as a rule...this woul d be the son of Jerome Bowye, son of Andro Bowey. We were wine keepers for the king from a t least 1569-1626, when James Bowie built a House at St. Mary's Wynd in Stirling. He had n o legitimate descent, and the estate passed to others via his daughters. Thus we can say w e were wine keepers for the King for at least 57 years, a significant time in the changes tha t occurred in Scotland. I thought some of you might enjoy this tidbit...June, 1611 As Beatri x Peirie, servitrix to James Buy, servant of his Majesties "wynsellar", is, at the command o f Elizabeth Crichtoune,, spous to the said James, and now residing at Stirling, about to proc eed to England " for the attending of the said James Buy his bairnes, and his utheris affairi s in his house and familie," and as a late proclamation forbids any person to repair to Engla nd by sea without special licence, such licence is hereby given to any master skipper or mar iners to convey the said Beatrix to England on her own reasonable charges, without danger o f the penalty.
