Herman Moritz was born on May 14th, 1848 in Crottondorf, Sachsen, Germany.1 Herman Moritz's father was Carl August Puegner and his mother was Christiane Concordie Schulze. His paternal grandparents were Christian Heinrich Puegner and Christiane Concordia Arnold. He had three brothers and a sister, named Carl August, Christian Friedrich, Carl Moritz and Christiane Friedericke. He was the third oldest of the five children.
