John was born about 1685 in St. Marys Co., MD. John's father was John, Jr. Jarboe and his mother was Sarah Joy. His paternal grandparents were John Jarboe and Mary M. Tattershall; his maternal grandparents were Peter Joy and Martha Golson. He had two brothers and a sister, named Mark, Peter and Elizabeth. He was the oldest of the four children.
