George John Hug 
George John was born on November 19th, 1890 in High Amana, Iowa Co., IA.1 George John's father was John Hug and his mother was Wilhelmina Bertha Meier. His maternal grandparents were George Meier and Catharine Schlaf. He had a brother and a sister, named John and Minnie. He was the youngest of the three children. He died at the age of 27 on October 6th, 1918 in Camp Dodge, IA. He was buried in High Amana, Iowa Co., IA.2 3 General Notes

AMANA MOURNS FIRST SOLDIER'S DEATH
George Hug, the 21 year old son of Mr. And Mrs. John Hug, of High
Amana, died Monday, October 7th, at Camp Dodge, as a result of the
Spanish influenza developing into pneumonia.
Twenty-one deaths from the dread disease were reported from Camp
Dodge Monday, Private Hug being among the number.
George Hug went to Camp Dodge with the July draft increment. He is
an only son and the first member of the Society to make the supreme
sacrifice.
