John Beaton was born in 1787 in Cochranville, Chester Co., PA.  John Beaton's father was Samuel Cochran and his mother was Hannah Slaymaker.  His maternal grandparents were Henry Slaymaker and Faithful Richardson. He had a brother and a sister, named Stephen Henry and Rebecca Slaymaker.  He was the oldest of the three children.
