Emich was born about 1110 in Alt-Leiningen, Pfalz, Bavaria.1   Emich's father was Count Emich of Leiningen II and his mother was Alberat von Nassau.  His paternal grandparents were Count Emich of Leiningen I and Countess Adelheid of Leiningen. He had two brothers named Gunther and Heinrich.  He was the youngest of the three children.  He died in 1189.1
