Leopold, known as The Illustrious, was born about 0940 in Phochlarn, Niederhosterreich, Austria.1   The Illustrious' father was Arnulf of Bavaria and his mother was Judith von Sulichgau.  His paternal grandparents were Margrave Liutpold of Nordgau and Kungunde of Swabia; his maternal grandparents were Count Eberhard of Friuli and Ermentrude France. He had three brothers and a sister, named Arnulf, Heinrich, Berthold and Judith.  He was the youngest of the five children.  He died on July 10th, 0994 in Wurzburg, Unterfranken, Bavaria.1
