Frederic's father was George Wood and his mother was Sophia Eliza Otway David (W Ham).  His paternal grandparents were Henry Wood (of Ditchling) and Sarah Wood (of Hurst*); his maternal grandparents were Francis David and Sarah Baker. He had six brothers and four sisters, named George, Frederic, Francis, William, Harry, Edwin, Sophia, Emma, Clara and Fanny.  He was the third oldest of the eleven children.
