Hannah was born in 1813 in New Mills and her baptism took place on November 14th, 1813 in Hayfield, Derby conducted by Jno Crowther.1  Hannah's father was Joseph Waterhouse and her mother was Leah Torner.  Her paternal grandparents were James Waterhouse and Mary; her maternal grandparents were George Torner and Mary. She had three brothers and five sisters, named Levi, William, Joseph, Harriott, Grace, Elizabeth, Caroline and Alice.  She was the third oldest of the nine children.

‌Hannah and Samuel were married in a religious ceremony in 1834 in Cathedral Church, Manchester witnessed by Hannah Warren and Thomas Parry.2   They had four sons and a daughter, named Richard, Joseph, Frederick, Alfred and Marian.
